Shamokin Area High School Alumni Association
12 members attended the meeting at Grace Lutheran Church. Maxine Howerter-Harvey ’83 - President - started the meeting at 7pm.
Secretary’s Report:
Minutes from the October17th, 2012 meeting are available on the web. Minutes approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bill Korbich ’54, reviewed receipts and expenditures for variance changes between 2011 and 2012. Largest item was a reduction of $7,106.40 in the general fund contributions in 2012 due to a high class donation in 2011. 19 scholarship accounts (established outside the alumni association but administered by the alumni association) were reviewed. All topics and specific details will be available in the spring newsletter.
Two gifts to the alumni association were received. Approximately $6,000 from the Walton Hill estate and $3,000 from Jane Sarge Bastress (class of 1942). Funds will be available in the future. Exact awards to be established TBD.
The treasurer’s report was approved.
Communications: Maxine Howerter-Harvey received an email from Sheila Masinos Pavelko ’74 stating that Keystone Publishing will be available to publish the newsletter. A slight increase in postage from last year may be part of the mailing.
Auditing: Position is currently open.
By-laws: Nothing to report.
Class Representatives: Nothing new to report.
Memorabilia: A dozen or so documents and programs from the class of 1959 were given to the alumni association.
Publicity: Nothing to report.
Banquet: Event will be held on Saturday May 25th 2013 at Masser’s Banquet Hall – Paxinos, PA. Details to follow in the spring newsletter. Menu will be the same as last year (roast turkey and roast beef).
Afterglow: Event will last for 2 hrs after the banquet.
Entertainment: Vic Boris Band will be playing for the afterglow.
Invitations: Nothing to report for the creation of the newsletter.
Program: Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74 to review closer to the banquet.
Awards: Matt Weller – Guidance Director at the high school – is the contact the alumni association should use when planning. Chris Venna – High School Principal – is another contact.
Educational Fund: Susan Kropinski Haas ’75 reported that a meeting scheduled for next month.
Nominations: We need of a female VP candidate for the banquet meeting in May. If you have a recommendation, please see an officer of the association or a member who attends the meetings on a regular basis. Jeff Clutcher ’74 to discuss availability with a possible contact.
Website: John Clutcher ’74 reminded folks of the website www.indians.k12.pa.us/alumni and gave a business update.
Old Business: None
New Business: The association approved to purchase a replacement PC for Bill Korbich. The PC he uses is around 9 years old. Exact cost and type TBD.
Next Meeting – Spring meeting will be held on Wednesday April 17, 2013 at 7pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Shamokin.
